This is a great guitarist. (Though I should note he was already well on his way to dissolution at this point, and you can hear it in the weakness of his voice. Compare to a decade earlier at the height of his powers with The New South, before Ricky Skaggs’ solo career in country.)
This is the same great guitarist after a lifetime of drug abuse, the old hippie with the sunken cheeks and ponytail who’s voice is completely gone. Wait for the closeups. Like some meth-head hillbilly in one of those before and after mug shot series.
A man who is still a hero for many reduced to a shell of himself, a sideman, a gimmick. The heart weeps.
